On Friday, February 21st, 2014 delegate Anne Kaiser (D-14, Montgomery County) introduced House Bill 0571 – “School Counselors – Role Expansion in Public High Schools” – to the State House and Ways Committee. Veronica Grimes (Forest Park High School), Donna Givens (Baltimore City College), and Jeremy Goldman (MSCA President-elect, Pikesville HS) spoke before the Ways and Means Committee to advocate for HB 0571. They eloquently and passionately shared their experiences as school counselors, addressed the needs of students around the state, and explained the need to lower counselor to student ratios. In addition, all the letters that were sent to MSCA regarding HB 0571 were presented to the delegates.
