Graduate Student Seminar – 2018
The Maryland School Counselor Association would like to thank all of our presenters and the graduate student attendees who made the 2018 Graduate Student Seminar a huge success. This even was sold out and over 60 students attended! We would also like to thank Howard County Community College for hosting the event.
This year's even was held on January 27th, and focused on the job application and hiring process. The morning started off with breakfast and networking among graduate students across different programs. Recent graduate and MSCA Board Member, Xiomara Medina, began our program by giving practical advice on how to prepare for the daunting job application process. Eunice Humphrey followed by delivering an engaging presentation on best practices when interviewing for school counseling jobs.
Later in the morning, we heard from a panel of Maryland school counseling supervisors and coordinators on ways to stand out as an applicant. We had representatives from the following school systems:
- Howard County Public Schools
- Montgomery Public Schools
- Anne Arundel Public Schools
- Prince George's Public Schools
- Baltimore County Public Schools
What students said about the event:
"This workshop was not only helpful to educate me on the interview and application process, but it has also motivated me to make the most out of my internship experience. Thank you!"
"Great workshop/seminar! Well prepared and loved the refreshments. Very practical advice and appreciate the diversity in schools represented"
"Thank you for putting this together. Incredibly helpful for preparing for the process!"
